Description Geslapen in het huis bij de zaal, dat in Amerikaanse stijl is gebouwd (er was toen een Amerikaanse familie in Pimampiro). Woensdagochtend eerst in de velddienst, om 8.15 uur bij de kleine zaal in El Juncal, en later met een broeder naar huizen gekeken die te huur zijn, volgens de broeders is dat alleen in het dorp Ambuqui, ongeveer 8 km van de zaal. De twee beste staan op de foto's. Verder is er in Valle del Chota geen leegstand van 'betere' huizen, wel is er een gebied voor vakantiegangers maar dat zijn kleine huisjes die meestal in het weekend verhuurd zijn. In de middag vertelde een zuster dat ze die morgen van e huisbewoner horen over een huis te huur met veel kamers en badkamer met warm water en een zaal als woonkamer, voor 120 dollar maar inclusief water en licht voor 150 dollar. Daar zijn we ook gaan kijken en de foto's zie je hier. Uitgelegd dat ik nog meer plaatsen in Ecuador bezoek en dat mijn vrouw en ik voor het eind van de maand een beslissing nemen, en met haar afgesproken dat als we haar huis kiezen dat we dan zullen bellen. Ook is er een broeder in de gemeente of groep die nog wel wat extra werk kan gebruiken en een goede indruk maakt om op afstand voor ons bepaalde dingen te kunnen doen. Tjsa, en toen was het bijna tijd voor de vergadering. Omdat in Pimampiro maar enkele personen quimicos op hadden nam ik aan dat het hier minder zou zijn omdat mensen hier minder geld hebben en eenvoudiger leven, maar het tegendeel bleek waar. Ook een aantal van degenen die vanmorgen veilig waren hadden nu zulke stoffen op dat ik er echt last van had, en omdat de zaal zo klein is zag ik het niet zitten twee uur lang aan die stoffen te worden blootgesteld. Dus hoewel ik dat eerst van plan was en ook graag na afloop en groepsfoto had gemaakt, heb ik en broeder uitgelegd hoe het zit en dat ik nu weg moet. Eerst nog een paar foto's gemaakt die je hier ziet. Het is jammer, maar als samenvatting zijn er een paar dingen waardoor het moeilijk zou zijn hier te gaan wonen. Geen huis met tuin voor Karin, die toch noodgedwongen veel thuis zou moeten zijn omdat ze de energie niet heeft dat anders te kunnen doen. Het schoonste huis heeft echt niets aan tuin, de andere ongeveer een vierkante meter. Maar die is behoorlijk vochtig en met schimmelproblemen op de begane grond. Ook staan beide huizen op 6-8 km. van de zaal, en met de bus gaan is normaal de beste optie, maar voor ons niet. Ook de bussen hebben niet allemaal maar een aantal wel ambielentales, geurverspreiders, en als je pech hebt stappen er ook mensen in die behoorlijk wat op hebben. Een auto zou de enige veilige mogelijkheid zijn. Heel fijn om met allemaal naar afgelegen gebieden te gaan, maar de kosten van een auto in Ecuador zitten niet in onze begroting. Een geschikte auto is 6-7.000 dollar, de kosten per maand vallen mee, incl. brandstof zo'n 100 dollar (een gallon benzine is 1,50 dollar). En als laatste punt is het onze ervaring dat als je anderen uitlegt waar je ziek van wordt, uiteraard zonder anderen iets op te leggen maar wel te zorgen dat ze een beetje informatie hebben, dat een aantal van minder dan de helft zich dan aanpast en minder of andere spullen gaat gebruiken, en een kleine meerderheid niet. We hebben geen reden te verwachten dat dat in de Valle el Chota anders zal zijn. 's Avonds teruggekomen in La Pampa, donderdagochtend dit getypt, en net (donderdagmiddag 13.50) een telefoontje met Keith in Loja gehad dat ik daar na aankomst vrijdagavond welkom ben. In de provincie Loja heb ik vier plaatsen om te bezoeken, Vilcabamba, Malacatos, Saraguro en Catamayo, en van Saraguro weet ik het nog niet, maar de andere drie blijken (toch) een Koninkrijkszaal te hebben. Dus op naar het zuiden voor het vervolg van de speurtocht. Oh ja, de afgelopen twee dagen in Ibarra, Pimampiro en El Juncal was er niemand die een woord Engels sprak, behalve Angel, die soms aan mij vroeg hoe iets in het Engels te zeggen, niet andersom. Laatste nieuws is dat ik vandaag op z'n Ecuadoriaans geprobeerd heb een paar dingen te regelen: Eerste: mijn eigen domheid is dat ik niet goed heb opgelet en dus een ehtrnet modem in mijn tas had in plaats van het analoge modem, en twee dagen geleden heb ik het enige bedrijf in heel Quito gevonden dat er binnen twee dagen een kon leveren. Vanmiddag was ik daar, en bleek het toch niet zo te zijn. Ik had die van de baas mee kunnen krijgen, als die niet net in het buitenland was met zijn modem, en anders dan normaal hebben ze moeite gedaan maar geen (extern) modem gevonden in de hoofdstad van Ecuador. Tweede: Mijn mobiele telefoon met chip-sim-kaart van Porta Ecuador ontvangt wel sms berichten, maar ik krijg ze niet verstuurd. Ook kan ik wel sommige nummers in Nederland bellen maar Goof kan ik niet bellen, niet via zijn mobiel en niet via zijn vaste telefoon die is doorgeschakeld naar zijn mobiel (Karin, probeer jij het even als je wilt, hem bellen bj voorkeur of anders via email? Denk aub aan de tijd, hij zit in Brazil). Bij de technische dienst van Porta geweest, maar ondanks de drie techneuten is het niet gelukt. Het is blijkbaar niet een probleem van de kaart, want met mijn Nederlandse sim lukt het ook niet. En de telefoon repareren of softwarematig bijwerken kunnen ze missschien wel maar mogen ze niet omdat het niet exact hetzelfde model is. Derde: Naar het vliegveld gegaan, want is redelijk vlakbij die andere dingen en een ticket in de hand is hier zeker beter dan bellen of via internet, voor een ticket naar Loja voor morgenavond. Oh ja, dat had ik nog niet verteld, Keith vertelde dat er een alternatieve route is van het vliegveld van El Toma - Catamayo naar de stad Loja in de provincie Loja, die bruikbaar is nu de normale weg dicht zit door de overstromingen en modder-landverschuivingen, en ik ben welkom in hun huis. Hij woont al dertig jaar daar en kent ook de omliggende plaatsen uitstekend. Oke, op het vliegveld een ticket voor morgenmiddag 16.30 (vrijdag 11 april 2008), en dat ging niet, alles is vol. De eerste vlucht met stoelen vrij is zondagmiddag 16.30, dus twee dagen later. Is er een andere maatschappij? Ja, daar en daar. Na lange tijd in de rij: Nee, wij vliegen niet naar Loja. Terug naar Toma, gevraagd of er wel een vlucht naar Guayaquil is, en dan vandaar naar Loja. Jawel, morgenmiddag, maar die komt om 18.45 aan en het vliegtuig naar Loja is dan net om 18.00 vertrokken... Ze kijkt nog even, en hoera (jammer van mijn nachtrust), morgenochtend 6 uur weet ze me een plaats te geven. Dus nu terug naar mijn logeeradres, eerst langs het internetcafe voor deze uploads, en dan alles klaarzetten voor een vroeg vertrek. Mooi zo! Love you all, maar vooral Karin, groetjes van Ron.
